Merger of Florida boatmakers moving forward

STUART, Fla. – Two Florida boatmakers have nearly completed a plan to join forces with a goal of selling between 60 and 70 boats this year, according to a story in today’s Palm Beach Post.

Florida Boat Works of Stuart and Sonic USA Inc. combined to create First Derivative Technologies LLC in January to represent their boatmaking division and composite manufacturing arm, the newspaper reported.

Sonic has moved most of its Hollywood, Fla. production operations to Florida Boat Works’ plant at Witham Field, Bill Sturtz, First Derivative’s chief financial officer and chief operating officer, told the Post.

Sonic’s 82,000-square-foot facility, called Super Sonic Sales and Service Center, will open April 15. The former Hollywood site will house a showroom and repair center for Dakota and Sonic boats, the article said.
