Cobra Electronics enters marine market

CHICAGO – Cobra Electronics has developed its first line of entry-level and professional-grade marine products, now available at retailers, marking the third new market the company entered in the past year.

The Cobra Marine line features two fixed submersible 25-watt transceivers, three handheld models, and marine power inverters – available in 400-, 800-, 1500- and 2200-watt models.

Those products represent what Cobra’s Senior Project Manager Sally Keenan said, in an interview with Boating Industry, is the company’s “first step” into the market.

“This is our first line of marine radios, we’re just getting traction in the market,” Keenan said. “We felt the marine industry was a good fit for us. Who buys radios? Fishermen, boaters, people who like the outdoors.

“For our first entry we took what we knew. We’ll be expanding into other areas of the marine market in the future.”

Keenan said the company might expand the line to include chart plotters and larger GPS systems down the road.

A company press release said the new product line is distinguished by industry firsts focused on usability and safety. Among them are the largest LCD screen on comparably priced fixed marine transceivers, the first ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) outlets on 400- and 800-watt marine power inverters, and the first integrated microphone/speaker with volume, channel and instant 16/9 controls on a fixed marine transceiver, according to the company.
