Numerous changes in store for South Carolina In-Water Boat Show

Charleston, SC – A new location, a new major sponsor, new prices and new events are planned for the South Carolina In-Water Boat Show, to be held April 1-4, the South Carolina Marine Association (SCMA) – the show’s owner – said yesterday.

Cummins MerCruiser Diesel, headquartered in Charleston, has signed on as the show’s major sponsor, according to Gary Dickman, vice president of worldwide marketing for the company.

“We really need to become a more visible part of our business community given the investment we have made in manpower and resources,” Dickman said. “Cummins MerCruiser Diesel is a pure marine company. All we do is marine. It is incumbent upon us to become a major supporter of this business, particularly right here in our own backyard.”

The show’s location will also change, although not much. It will still take place in Brittlebank Park in downtown Charleston, but will move to the end of the park closest to the Ashley River Bridges and the new Bristol Condominium and Marina complex.

The move will allow the in-water portion of the show to use the new Bristol Marina docks, and in future years, as the show grows, SCMA will use the Bristol docks as a base from which to install its own docks.

“This year the show will be bigger and better than ever,” said SCMA executive director Jamie O’Brien. “Both our landside and in water space are almost sold out and we have a number of new exhibitors, including boat dealers from all over North and South Carolina.”
