Manufacturers express support for MRAA’s warranty position

OAK PARK, Ill. – A position paper issued by the Marine Retailers Association of America (MRAA) calling for a “bow to stern” consumer warranty from boat manufacturers has elicited support from a number of boat builders, said MRAA in a recent press release.

Cobalt Boats of Neodesha, Kan. was the first to respond, saying it pays retail shop rates and offers a bow to stern warranty, according to the MRAA.

“Our future’s success depends on happy customers,” Cobalt’s Pack St. Clair said. “We at Cobalt applaud any effort to enhance the boating experience.”

A number of other boat manufacturers, including Formula, Genmar, Edgewater, Scout and Pursuit, have replied with confirmations concerning their efforts to expand their warranty policies, and some have noted that they are working diligently to provide a bow to stern warranty, the MRAA said.

Other manufacturers have replied with promises to study the MRAA Position Paper in detail in an effort to adopt it, according to the association.

A number of manufacturers have asked that MRAA encourage dealers to expand their resources in the customer service area, a partnering initiative that was called for in the paper. Retailers must provide professional service technicians on duty all day, every day during the boating season while manufacturers must provide support to train these technicians, MRAA said.
