Marine Surveyors Spring Conference to feature look into the future

CHESAPEAKE, VA, – Looking into the Future will be the theme of the National Association of Marine Surveyors 42nd Annual National Marine Conference East, which will be held Apr. 18-20 in New York City, a NAMS press release said Monday.

Marine surveyors and related professionals serving yacht and small craft, hull and machinery, and cargo industries will gather the Holiday Inn Martinique for seminars and presentations on a variety of topics.

A mock trial court on Apr. 20, featuring cargo loss and hull collision disputes presided over by the Hon. John G. Ingram, Acting Supreme Court Justice, New York State Supreme Court, will be one of the feature attractions according to NAMS.

The conference is designed to primarily to benefit professional marine surveyors and will count toward the “Certified Marine Surveyor” annual re-certification for NAMS members in attendance the release said. Each member holding the NAMS-CMS certification has practiced for at least five years.

Other topics to be addressed at the conference include:

Yachts & Small Craft
– Customer Service: It’s for the Surveyors too – Pat Kearns, Marine Experts.
– How mediation alters the future – Robert Dunn, Bryson, Dunn Dispute Resolution LLC.
– Future of the “NMMA Certified” label – Tom Marhevko/David Dehorn, NMMA.

Hull & Machinery
– Ships of the future, supply of power and the advanced cargo securing system – Stephen Gumpel, President, Germanischer Lloyd Class Society.
– Salvage of vessels – John Witte, Don John Marine.
– Cargo gears and lifting equipment certifications – John Colletti, John P. Colletti & Associates.
– Heavy lift cargo – Greg Gant, Guy Mathews & Associates.

Cargo
– Current matters with Marine Underwriting – James Craig, President, American Institute of Marine Underwriters (AIMU).
– Cargo Security concerns in the U.S. ports – Joe M. Baker Jr., Executive Director, National Cargo Security Council.
– Transportation of Hazardous Materials – Captain James McNamara,
President, National Cargo Bureau.

Time has been scheduled for additional networking and a spouses program
is also planned, NAMS said. In addition to NAMS members, others in attendance will include marine underwriters, brokers and agents, loss adjusters, naval architects, admiralty attorneys, marina operators, vessel owners and operators, freight forwarders, and terminal
operators.

Conference registrations should be made by March 19. Fees are $325 for NAMS members
($350 after March 19) and $375 for non-members ($400 after March 19).
