ABYC to hold 50th anniversary meeting

EDGEWATER, Md. – Long-time member of the American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC) George O. Mitchell, Esq. Lane Reese Aulick Summers & Field, PA will serve as the event sponsor at the 50th Anniversary at the 2004 Annual Meeting & Awards Presentation, according to an ABYC statement yesterday.

Mitchell is a board certified admirality attorney and has been a member of ABYC for 15 years.

ABYC’s membership, which includes boat owners, boat builders, surveyors, boat yards, insurance companies, law firms, trade associations, marinas, dealerships, government agencies and equipment and accessory manufacturers, will gather at this year’s Annual Meeting, to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of ABYC’s incorporation as a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation.

As a special addition to this year’s Annual Meeting, Admiral Thomas H. Collins, Commandant of the United States Coast Guard will be addressing ABYC’s membership as the Keynote Speaker for the event, and assisting with the presentation of awards.

“The 50th anniversary is an exciting milestone for ABYC as well as the marine industry,” said Skip Burdon, President/CEO of ABYC. “Over the past several years, George Mitchell has been an ardent supporter of ABYC and its mission of boating safety, and we sincerely thank him for his generous contributions to our organization.”

ABYC has been developing, writing and updating the safety standards for boatbuilding and repair in the United States for going-on 50 years. ABYC is actively involved with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as well as certification programs for marine technicians.
