Genmar researches women’s boating market

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Based upon its Women Making Waves program and in an effort to conduct market research, Genmar Holdings, Inc. has become the title sponsor of the Minneapolis Women’s Expo.

The Women Making Waves program was established in an attempt to draw more women into boating. Part of that initiative includes building boats that are equally friendly to both sexes, and Genmar is asking women to voice their opinions on the subject at the Expo January 16-18 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

“The Minneapolis Women’s Expo is the perfect forum to ask women what will help make boating easier and more enjoyable for them,” said Genmar’s Marcia Kull. “Too often in a boat show or dealership a woman’s voice is drowned out by sales efforts. Last year, women told us they wanted to learn the active skills of boating ‘without criticism,’ and we created our Women Making Waves Boating Basics program in response to that demand.

“This year, with over 75,000 women expected to attend the Minneapolis Women’s Expo, I’m confident these attendees will provide Genmar with another new catalyst, this time in the area of boat design.”

Genmar hopes that its questions will help the company determine what women are looking for in particular boat designs and styling. Genmar will showcase four of its boats, ranging in length from 17 to 28 feet, and visitors are expected to be encouraged to sit at the helm, test seat comfort and review the boat’s key features. Genmar will then follow up with a brief survey form to allow visitors to provide feedback on what appeals, or what doesn’t, on the various boat models.
