New Yanmar marine company formed
ADAIRSVILLE, Ga. – Yanmar Diesel America Corp. has spun off its marine business unit, creating a new company, Yanmar Marine USA Corp., headed by a new president, Thomas Calhoun, effective January 1, 2004, Yanmar reported today.
The new company, headquartered in Georgia, will manage Yanmar’s pleasurecraft and light-duty commercial marine engine business in North and Central America, with full responsibility for all marketing, sales and service-related activities, according to Yanmar.
Calhoun has held several positions with Yanmar Diesel America Corp., including vice president and marketing director, and spent 2 years at Yanmar’s corporate headquarters in Osaka, Japan, where he served in both staff and line-management roles. Before joining Yanmar, he was director of sales and marketing at Crusader Engines and Bertram Yacht.
Calhoun also serves as a director and vice president of Yanmar Marine International BV, the Yanmar subsidiary with global responsibility for the pleasure and light-duty commercial marine engine business.
Yanmar’s Adairsville, Ga., facility, in addition to headquartering the new company, is the worldwide manufacturing center for Yanmar’s marine engines in the 190 hp to 440 hp range. It has the ability to produce more than 10,000 marine engines annually, as well as new training facilities for Yanmar’s distributors, dealers and in-house personnel.
The new company offers pleasurecraft engines ranging from 9.1 hp to 900 hp.
