Westport optimistic about 2004
EVERETT, Wash. – With the mid-day launch today of a new 112-foot raised pilothouse motor yacht at its shipyard, Westport has completed its eighth build within a twelve-month period, the company reported in a statement today.
This launch marks the busiest-ever year for Westport, according to CEO David Jones, a pace that he said promises to extend into the foreseeable future.
“We had an exceptionally strong Fort Lauderdale show,” Jones said, “which in view of current orders is going to keep us busy for some time.”
Citing a trend that indicates a growing preference among yacht buyers for faster delivery times, Jones noted that Westport is well positioned to meet the current surge in orders. “We’ve already made a substantial investment in tooling, process engineering and infrastructure, giving us the capability to deliver a very high quality vessel to each client in twelve months or less.”
Jones added that expansion projects currently underway will add to that capacity, enabling the builder to increase its build rate yet further.
“In January our Port Angeles yard will begin construction of the first new Westport 50 Meter tri-deck,” Jones said, “and new facilities construction at our yard in Westport, Washington, gives us greater capacity to produce the 98, 112 and 130.”
Westport is a manufacturer of composite structure luxury motor yachts, building vessels from 98 to 130 feet, with the new 50-meter tri-deck in process for future release. The company operates shipyards in Westport, Hoquiam and Port Angeles, Washington, with sales offices in Seattle and Fort Lauderdale.
