Miami show to offer kids boat building workshop again

MIAMI, Fla. – The free Kids Aboard Academic Boat Building Workshop will be offered for the second year in a row at the Miami International Boat Show & Strictly Sail, February 12-17, workshop organizers reported in a recent statement.

During the six days of the show, Kids Aboard crew will be leading the children and teens attending the show in building, painting, launching, paddling and sailing two 10-foot wooden sailboats. The Kids Workshop will be conducted from 12 pm to closing each day of the show.

The Kids Aboard Academic Boat Building Workshop at this year’s Miami International Boat Show is sponsored by Sea School, Phasor, Sail Magazine, Nautical Gold Creations and Sail America, according to organizers. Sponsorship opportunities are still available for the Miami boat show workshop.

In addition to the boat building activities, prizes will be raffled off at the workshop booth, such as a piece of jewelry from Nautical Gold Creations. A U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s License course and 100 Ton Masters Upgrade course, offered by SeaSchool, will also be one of the prizes to be given away at the raffle.

Curtis and MaggiLu Tucker, the captain and first mate of the Kids Aboard crew, are publishers of Kids Aboard.com, Sail Miami.com and Atlantic Coast Boating.com, and are U.S. certified, international teachers, as well the parents of three young boaters.

The Kids Aboard Academic Boat Building Workshop is an educational workshop for schools and homeschools, where children and teens learn music and art, math, science, language arts, and history, through the hands-on activity of building a boat. Other workshops in 2004 will be held at some Florida schools and with homeschool groups, and they also do a condensed version of the workshop at a few select boat shows.

Their mission with Kids Aboard and their other magazines is to promote safe and intelligent boating as the favorite family sport, according to the group.
