Russo Marine plans to expand

MEDFORD, Mass. – Russo Marine has agreed to buy a 3.3-acre parcel of land in Medford, Mass., on which it will open a 42,000-square-foot facility designed to serve “the next generation of boating consumers,” the dealership chain reported in a statement yesterday.

Russo said it will be relocating its north of Boston dealership at the newly renovated building on the site, which is located just off the interstate on Route 38. The grand opening is planned for April, according to the dealer.

“The next generation of boating consumers is going to have a much greater expectation of what a boat dealership should look like and what services it should provide,” said Russo Marine President Larry Russo, Sr. “The new facility will be configured with innovative glass wall systems to allow the consumer to view the boat rigging and servicing process from the showroom.”

Russo also said the company has designed an indoor, glass-enclosed 1,600-square-foot boat delivery area “to replicate what many auto dealerships have recently created.”

Of the total 42,000 square feet, 20,000 will be dedicated to a year-round “boat show” presentation; 15,000 will be set aside for rigging, service and repair; and 7,000 for administration and support, according to the company. The building will be able to accommodate up to 75 boats at a time for sales, service and pre-delivery, Russo added.

Russo Marine, founded in 1940, has four locations in Massachusetts and Rhode Island with total annual sales of 350 new and pre-owned powerboats from 13 to 65 feet in length.
