NMMA helps publicize product recalls online

WASHINGTON, DC – The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) has partnered with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to launch a new Web site devoted exclusively to products recalls, it reported in a statement today.

The Web site, www.Recalls.gov, is live today and is an unprecedented collaborative effort of CPSC and four other federal regulatory agencies – the U.S. Coast Guard, Environmental Protection Agency, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and Food and Drug Administration, according to NMMA.

“NMMA is pleased to help the federal government do their job and alert consumers of recalled products,” said Monita W. Fontaine, NMMA vice president of government relations. “The recreational boating industry takes recalls very seriously and wants its customers to feel safe and educated about boats and boating products.”

NMMA’s Discover Boating Web site, www.DiscoverBoating.com, provides a direct link to www.Recalls.gov to assist boaters with obtaining recall information posted by the U.S. Coast Guard. Users should click on the Boating Safety link and then scroll down to the bottom of the page.

The new Web site links visitors to the home pages of government regulatory agencies responsible for product recalls. In addition to finding details about recalled products, visitors will gain safety information and may sign up to e-mail alerts on recalled products, NMMA reported.
