Superyacht Society recognizes Design Award finalists

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The Superyacht Society announced the names of the winning yachts in its annual International Superyacht Design Awards Program as well as the recipient of its Award for Leadership at the society’s “Awards for Leadership and Design Gala” event held the opening night of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show on Thursday, October 30, according to a statement from the company yesterday.

The society’s award program honors yacht builders, designers, interior designers, naval architects and stylists selected from a list of five finalists in each size category. In addition to five length categories (three power, two sail), best interior awards are also given for each yachting discipline: power and sail, the company stated.

Yachts selected as finalists annually by the society’s board of directors are then judged independently by a list of qualified professionals in the industry.

The Superyacht Society also annually recognizes one of the large yacht industry’s most revered figures with its Leadership Award. For 2003, the award was presented to Paolo Vitelli of Azimut – Benetti Group, the company reported.

The following yachts were recognized with Design Awards:

  • Best Power (23 – 32 m) – “Magpie” : Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding, builder; Setzer Design Group, designer, interior designer, naval architect and stylist
  • Best Power (32 – 43 m) – “Seaflower”: Feadship/Roay Van Lent, builder; De Voogt Naval Architects, designer, naval architect and stylist; John Munford Designs, interior designer
  • Best Power (43 m +) – “Skat”: Lurssen Werft, builder, naval architect; Espen Oeino Design, designer, stylist; Marco Zanini, interior designer
  • Best Power Interior – “Lady Lola”: Oceanco, builder; Zuretti Interiors, interior designer
  • Best Sail (23 – 36 m) – “Only Now”: CNB-France, builder; German Frers, designer, naval architect and stylist; Couedel Hugon Design, interior designer
  • Best Sail (36 m +) – “Borkumriff IV”: Royal Huisman Shipyard, builder; Gerard Dijkstra/John G. Alden, designer, naval architect and stylist; John Munford Designs, interior designer
  • Best Sail Interior – “Squall”: Perini Navi, builder; Remi Tessier Dernier Etage, interior designer
