NMMA urges members to contact the President
CHICAGO, Ill. – National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) members are being urged by the association to contact President Bush, following the World Trade Organization (WTO) ruling on Monday that U.S.-imposed steel tariffs are illegal under international trade law, according to a statement from the organization yesterday.
President Bush now has a limited amount of time to rescind the tariffs, or face $2.2 billion in retaliatory tariffs on U.S. good, reported the association. European Union Trade Commissioner Pascal Lamy warned last week that if Washington failed to comply, “retaliation is a racing certainty in mid-December,” the association stated.
NMMA is strongly encouraging lawmakers to put pressure on President Bush to immediately rescind the tariffs, and asked members of the recreational marine industry to contact President Bush immediately to insist that the Administration end the steel tariffs, according to the association’s statement yesterday.
