Fort Lauderdale a success for Hatteras

NEW BERN, N.C. — Hatteras Yachts, a unit of Brunswick Corp., had its strongest boat show success since the mid-1990s at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, the company reported yesterday.

The company attributes the success to a combination of new model introductions made at the show and an improving market for Hatteras products.

Bryant Phillips, senior vice president of sales and marketing said his company saw “an upturn in activity” during the weeks prior to the show, which gave Hatteras a positive outlook. In addition, Phillips commented that the market is “clearly responding” to Hatteras’ new models, and that the company’s “tangible investment” over the past two years in its new model development “became dramatically visible to the consumer this fall.”

“In terms of retail units sold to the end-user, you have to go back to 1997 to find a show where we experienced more success,” added Phillips. “But our current records don’t go back far enough to find a show that equaled this event in terms of total revenue. This is clearly a direct reflection of the widespread acceptance of the total facilities and process improvements and new product development that has occurred under Brunswick’s ownership.”
