YachtFest ’03 largest in show’s history

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The fourth annual YachtFest San Diego ’03, presented by San Diego Marine Exchange, proved to be the largest and most successful in the show’s history, said David Roscow, chairman of the YachtFest board of directors in a statement yesterday.

“We’re very pleased with the results,” said Roscow. “A record number of visitors toured the spectacular selection of yachts, and exhibitors were thrilled with the high quality of show attendees. Nearly 30 percent of the attending yachts received offers, and several deals have already closed.”

In addition, YachtFest’s “A Toast to the Oceans” gala raised nearly $50,000 for the Ocean Conservancy, an organization dedicated to protecting ocean ecosystems and conserving the global abundance and diversity of marine wildlife through science based advocacy, research, and public education, show organizers reported.

During the gala, Pacific Super Yacht Promotions presented the first YachtFest San Diego Best in Show awards, which were judged by a panel of experts from various facets of yachting, according to show organizers.

Awards handed out included: the Best in Show award given to Life of Riley, a 1989/2002 Delta Marine 132 foot cockpit motor yacht; the People’s Choice award given to Dakota, a 2001 Crescent Custom 127 foot tri-deck motor yacht; and the Best Interior award given to Tanahoa, a 2002 Northcoast Yachts 92 foot cockpit motor yacht.

Diane Fraser of Fraser Yachts Worldwide presented two seminars focusing on five international chartering destinations; the Caribbean, the Western Mediterranean, Costa Rica, Fiji, and the Hawaiian Islands. The Super Yacht Society’s presentation, “A Career in Yachting – Your Ticket Around the World” attracted well over 100 prospective yacht crew members, said show organizers.

YachtFest San Diego ‘04 will kick off the 2004 big boat fall season on September 16-19, at Shelter Island Marina/Island Palms Hotel. YachtFest organizers anticipate that the show will continue to grow.
