Charles Marine awarded ISO certification

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. — Charles Marine & Industrial Group has received an upgrade to ISO 9001:2000 certification, the company reported in a statement yesterday.

Previously registered to 1994 standards, the company underwent a certification audit in order to qualify for the latest ISO standards. ISO 9001:2000 is the latest ISO standard, and companies are required to become certified to 9001:2000 standards by December 31 or they will lose ISO certification, according to the company.

Following a two-day audit of Charles headquarters in Rolling Meadows, Ill., and the company’s manufacturing facilities in Casey, Ill., ISO 9001:2000 certification was awarded to the manufacturer of AC and DC electrical products. The audit included a management review process, examination of procedural documentation and assessment of quality processes.

The revised version of the new standard requires organizations to consider their activities as “linked” and so adopt a “process approach” to their quality management system. The standard also shifts focus from a compliance standpoint to one of “continual improvement”, the company stated.

“We’re very proud of the dedication of our employees to continually improve quality at Charles, and respectful of ISO’s framework for analyzing errors that allows our company to improve operations,” said Lyle St. Romain, general manager of Charles Marine & Industrial Group.
