Almar Boats acquires new facility

TACOMA, Wash. – Almar Boats, a small aluminum boat builder is expanding its business with a new facility in Roseburg, Ore., the News Tribune reported in an article yesterday.

This is not a move for the company, as an Associated Press article implied last week, according to the newspaper, but rather an expansion for the company that is outgrowing its Tacoma facility. Roseburg is the home North River Jet Boats, the company that owns Almar.

Almar, short for Aluminum Marine Construction Inc., has been in business since the mid-1970s, building around 200 small to medium sized boats a year and seeing revenues around $6 million a year, the newspaper stated.

The Roseburg facility will create jobs, employing about 80 fabricators and 50 support employees. With the addition of the new space, North River will build about 1,000 boats this year, which is double the amount it sold two years ago, noted the newspaper.

Mike Sandeman, general manager of Almar told the Tribune that the boats built in the new facility under the Almar name will be medium-sized sport fishing boats that will sell in the $45,000 to $60,000 range.
