Crystal-Pierz Marine takes home Growth 50 award

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Crystal-Pierz Marine has been recognized as a recipient of the 2003 Business Journal Growth 50 award, signifying the boat dealer as one of the 50 fastest growing private companies in the Twin Cities metropolitan area, the company reported yesterday.

The Growth 50, is an annual publication of The Business Journal. Landing at 43, gaining one position over its 2002 spot, Crystal-Pierz Marine was recognized for a second consecutive year, the company stated.

To qualify for the list, submitted companies had to be privately held and based in the Twin Cities nine-county metro area. The companies had to have at least $1 million in revenue in both 2000 and 2001, while showing continuous growth in its last three years, and were ranked according to total percentage of growth for that period. Just over half (26) of the 2003 Growth 50 companies returned from last year’s list, according to the company.

Crystal-Pierz Marine was the only marine sales and service company to be recognized by the Growth 50. The company, comprised of four boat dealerships in the Twin Cities metro area, in addition to seven locations in out state Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin, saw its three-year revenue grow by 51 percent from 2000 through 2002, the company reported.

“We are poised to have another solid year of increased sales and revenue,” said Myron Kujawa, owner of Crystal-Pierz Marine. “We expect to at least hold that steady until the end of the year.”

Irwin Jacobs, chairman of Genmar Holdings Inc., the manufacturer of several of the boat brands sold at Crystal-Pierz Marine, believes savvy marketing has played a significant role in the boat dealership’s success, according to the company.

“They have been very proactive in marketing. They implement these things magically perfect, and they know how to use the program to grow their business rather than to sustain their business,” said Jacobs.

According to Kujawa, as important as marking is to the growth of the business, a team effort is really what makes the difference.
