New legislation introduced to increase fishing, hunting on public lands
ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Representatives Dan Benishek (R-MI) and Dan Boren (D-OK) introduced legislation on Friday that would increase access on public lands for recreational fishing, hunting, and shooting sports.
The new legislation would increase access for fishing and hunting by directing managers to open up lands for hunting and fishing until they’re closed, and directs managers to determine how new legislation would affect or impair traditional outdoor activities like fishing and hunting.
“With lack of access being one of the most common reasons keeping anglers from enjoying a day on the water, this new legislation opens an opportunity to increase sportfishing participation, not just on public lands, but nation-wide,” American Sportfishing Association Vice President Gordon Robertson said in a press release.
