Global Marine Insurance funds at-risk youth program
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — In a short ceremony recognizing the contribution of Global Marine Insurance to the Maritime Heritage Alliance and the Champion at risk youth program, Maritime Heritage President Rod Jones presented a new print of Champion by Charles Murphy to Michael Smith.
Global Marine Insurance will again sponsor Champion in the Michigan Schooner Festival in September. Sponsorship funds will be used to provide funding for the Sail Champion program, which provides sailing opportunities for at-risk youth through a program with Child and Family Services of Traverse City and the Northern Michigan University.
The Sail Champion program provides participants with an opportunity to learn to sail and in conjunction with a licensed captain and counselor, they learn teamwork, team building, self confidence and how to deal with problems in a constructive manner.
