Donation provides for second year of Westlawn scholarships
ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology has entered its second year of scholarships and grants, thanks to a substantial donation.
The donor, the Kathy and Jerry Wood Foundation, sponsored scholarships in the 2010 school year. The foundation will assist more students in 2011.
The foundation has awarded an extended grant of $90,000, at $30,000 per year over a three-year period (2010, 2011 and 2012), to provide tuition assistance for eligible Westlawn students.
Jerry Wood dedicated much of his life to the support of boating and education. He established the Annapolis Sailing School in 1959. Over the years, the Wood’s businesses have employed over 3,000 young people and young adults helping to train and mentor them to prepare to move out into the world to become well-rounded mature individuals.
Westlawn’s parent company is the American Boat & Yacht Council, which is based in Annapolis.
