NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — A boat owner may find himself in court, as the Newport Beach City Council has grown impatient with his long-term boat restoration project.
The city council has opted to use a court order to get Dennis Holland to move his boat. The 98-year-old, 72-foot boat, which is in the beginning stages of restoration, has been in Holland’s yard since 2006. Neighbors have complained about the boat, and Holland has not filed for a city-required building permit since January. He has been accruing fines since February, according to an article in the Orange County Register.
Holland does not think the boat would survive a move. Holland is a master shipwright and has previously built a 118-foot replica of a Revolutionary-war era boat in his yard.
