Traverse City named  “Coast Guard City”

STONINGTON, Conn. — The Coast Guard Foundation, an organization providing education, welfare, and morale to all Coast Guard members and their families, announced Traverse City, Mich., as a Coast Guard City, according to a recent release from the organization.

The award, given by Commandant of the United States Coast Guard and approved by Congress, is given to communities that have made special efforts to acknowledge the professional work of the Coast Guard men and women assigned to their area.

The award was presented at the Traverse City Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner on Jan. 28 at the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa.

“Traverse City has demonstrated a remarkable relationship between the community and the Air Station and we want to acknowledge and show our appreciation for their efforts,” said Ann Brengle, president of the Coast Guard Foundation, in the release. “What may seem to some as merely neighborly to the citizens of Traverse City is deeply felt by the men and women of the Coast Guard. We offer our congratulations to Traverse City on this tremendous accomplishment, and to RDML Michael Parks, CDR Jonathan Spanerand Air Station Traverse City on this very special occasion.”
