MTA/NJ offers two scholarships

MANASQUAN, N.J.—The Marine Trades Association of New Jersey announces two Education Scholarships for the 2011-2012 academic year available to students interested in pursuing a career in the recreational marine industry, according to a recent release from the organization.

The MTA/NJ Education Scholarship awards $1,500 that can be applied towards any marine trades program at any school.

The Automotive Training Center in Pennsylvania is sponsoring a half scholarship, valued at $9,000, for students interested in the Marine Technician Program or Marine Service Technology Program. The Automotive Training Center offers training and experience while performing maintenance and repair on inboard and outboard engines produced by major manufacturers.

Both scholarships are open to any New Jersey resident who has graduated high school and has a strong desire to succeed in a marine industry vocational/technical program to further their education in the marine industry. The applicant must show intend to pursue a career in the recreational marine industry in New Jersey.

“In today’s economy, it is important for individuals to explore all of the opportunities and careers that are available to them and the boating industry is the perfect place to start. There are many rewarding, exciting, and year-round careers in the marine trades,” said MTA/NJ Executive Director Melissa Danko in the release. “It is our hope that by offering these scholarships, we are not only providing an opportunity for someone to find the perfect career for them but raising awareness of all that the boating industry offers.”

Applications and informational brochures are available on the MTA/NJ website. Applications for both scholarships are due April 1.
