ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The BoatUS Foundation, in partnership with Underwriters Laboratories and the Personal Floatation Device Manufacturer’s Association, is now accepting unique life jacket design entries for the “Innovation in Life Jacket Design Competition,” according to a recent release from BoatUS.
The first competition, held five years ago, produced several innovative life jacket designs to the public, the US Coast Guard, and recreational boating industry.
“We all have the mindset of what a life jacket looks like-and that’s what we need to be challenging,” explained Joe Waters of Underwriters Laboratories in the release.
There are no rules regarding design or types of materials that can be used. The public will judge the entries based on level of comfort, reliability, affordability of the design, and originality and innovation.
The deadline to enter is Feb. 1, 2011
