NMMA asks for clarification on Gulf Coast claims process
CHICAGO — On Monday afternoon, the National Marine Manufacturers Association submitted a letter to Kenneth Feinberg, the man in charge of the Gulf Coast Claims Facility (GCCF), requesting clarification on the claims process for both pending and future claims by marine businesses that have experienced economic damages due to the oil spill.
In the letter, the group wrote: “We find that we are unable to answer some of our members’ questions regarding the [Gulf Coast Claims Facility] — such as how best to present claims and what claims will be eligible. Thus, we have compiled our member’s questions below and request that the GCCF provide general guidance to the recreational marine industry by answering these questions.”
The letter also shares the results of NMMA’s recent survey on the impact of the BP oil spill on boating businesses.

The GCCF was recently established as a neutral fund responsible for all decisions relating to the administration and processing of claims related to the oil spill.
“We anticipate that the GCCF, which was officially up and running as of last Monday, August 23, will streamline the claims process and improve the flow of information to claimants,” NMMA said in a statement.
