Schwarzenegger vetoes bill banning boat toilet chemical

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger recently vetoed a bill that would have prohibited the sale and use of widely employed holding tank deodorants utilized in waste facilities and toilets on boats and recreational vehicles, according to a release from Thetford Marine. The decision was reached after considerable input from those who would have been most impacted, particularly in the RV industry.

“Thetford is very grateful for all the distributors, RV dealers, RVIA and other concerned industry organizations that rallied together and helped to provide education and understanding regarding this bill. Without them, this veto, which preserves consumer choice in RV deodorants, may not have been achieved,” Kevin Phillips, Thetford’s VP of sales and marketing, said in the release.

Thetford Corp. is a supplier of sanitation and refrigeration products for the recreational vehicle, marine and heavy-duty truck industries.
