SAS Yachts to become Seattle Yachts

SEATTLE – SAS Yachts, also known as Sailboats at Shilshole, is changing its name to Seattle Yachts effective Aug. 1, according to a release from the company. The goal of the new name is to reflect recent changes, including new ownership and new agency agreements with Northwest Trawlers and Island Gypsy trawlers.

SAS Yachts was purchased in January by Ted Griffin and Ed Scripps. Griffin had been a broker at SAS Yachts for two years, when the opportunity to buy the business presented itself.

“Many of our customers at a certain point in their lives were making the switch from sail to power and we were unable to help them,” Griffin said in the release. “So I knew it was imperative to be able to offer boats to meet those needs and trawlers fit the bill perfectly. With a trawler, it’s a similar mindset to a cruiser: speed is not important, it’s about the journey. And as many in the boating community still remember us as Sailboats at Shilshole, a new name was needed to reflect our new focus on sail and power.”

To serve the crossover boater, Seattle Yachts chose to represent Northwest Trawlers and Island Gypsy trawlers and now is the exclusive Pacific Northwest agent for both.

The company also added three new staff members and an additional 140 feet of moorage, bringing the total to 375 feet.
