Most powerboat segments regain upward sales in January

MIAMI – In the January Info-Link Technologies Bellwether Report, sales of all powerboat segments except ski boats inched upward or remained steady, while ski boats showed a slight decline, compared to the 12 month period ended Dec. 31. While unit sales of powerboats 15 feet in length and above were down about 27 percent during the 12-month period ended Jan. 31 when compared to the prior 12 months, most segments tracked by Info-Link have seen gradual gains since July, with only ski boats losing ground since peaking in the summer. PWC sales have remained relatively flat during the same period.

Within the outboard boat segment, unit sales were down about 26 percent during the same period, while the sterndrive/jet boat segment sales were down about 31 percent, the personal watercraft segment was down about 27 percent, the outboard sportfishing segment was down about 25 percent and the ski boat segment was down about 30 percent.

The bellwether report is based on new U.S. boat registrations in geographically dispersed states representing roughly half of the U.S. boat market.
