R.I. Supreme Court rules on local marina’s expansion
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Rhode Island Supreme Court reversed a lower court ruling Thursday that would have allowed Champlin’s Marina to expand in Block Island’s Great Salt Pond, according to a report in the Providence Journal.
The court sent the case back to the state’s Coastal Resources Management Council, which means more proceedings for a dispute that began seven years ago.
The decision revisited complaints about improprieties by various council members, and the complicated decision affirmed, but also reversed, various parts of an earlier ruling by Superior Court Judge Netti C. Vogel that resulted in approving about two-thirds of the expansion sought by the marina.
