MANASQUAN, N.J. – The Marine Trades Association of New Jersey (MTA/NJ) and the Automotive Training Center in Pennsylvania are offering two education scholarships for the 2010-11 school year open to students interested in pursuing a career in the marine industry, according to a release from the MTA/NJ.
The first scholarship is a $3000 MTA/NJ Education Scholarship, which can be applied toward any marine trades program at any school. The second is from the Automotive Training Center in Pennsylvania, which is sponsoring a full scholarship to students interested in their Marine Technician Program and/or Marine Service Technology Program.
The MTA/NJ Foundation was established to help promote boating safety and education and most recently to fund a new scholarship to encourage education in the marine trades field. The MTA/NJ Foundation has awarded over $10,000 in scholarships and awards, and it was again able to double the amount of this year’s scholarship thanks in part to a $1,500 award from the Marine Retailers Association of America (MRAA).
The Automotive Training Center offers hands-on training and experience while performing maintenance and repair on inboard and outboard engines manufactured by Honda and Mercurya Marine as well as other manufacturers.
According to the group, both scholarships are open to any New Jersey resident who has recently graduated high school or is currently enrolled in a post secondary vocational program and has a strong desire to further their education in the marine industry.
