Port Harbor Marine launches boat club

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Maine boat dealership and marina Port Harbor Marine has launched a new Boat Club inspired by the company’s successful boat rental program at its five locations, according to a recent release from Port Harbor.

“We figured the boat club concept would be well received and appeal to a more local crowd,” said Port Harbor President Rob Soucy. “The membership allows people who’ve been thinking about owning a boat, but who aren’t quite ready to make the full commitment, an opportunity to get into the sport at a fraction of the cost.”

Membership will fall under two categories: a $3,495 family membership that allows family groups and one designated captain access to boats from May 1 to Oct. 1, and a $4,995 business membership, which grants access to three designated captains throughout the May-to-October season.

Reservations will be available on a first come, first served basis online, at the marina or by phone.

Soucy said he sees the Boat Club as an ideal way to expose a new customer base to Maine boating, partly as a means to increase traffic to Port Harbor in the long term. Port Harbor will be the first Maine marina to offer this type of service in both fresh water and salt water, according to the company.

“As Maine’s largest boat dealer,” Soucy said, “we have the ability to provide a wide variety of boats — and the ability to use them on either lake or ocean.”

Boat clubs and fractional yacht ownership and lease programs have seen increased interest during the past year among consumers and dealers, according to several recent articles on Boating Industry.com.
