Sea Tow Foundation receives $450,000
SOUTHOLD, N.Y. – The Sea Tow Boating Safety and Education Foundation, headquartered in Southold, N.Y., has been selected to receive $450,000 in federal grants to support three boating safety programs in the coming year, it reported in a statement today. The Sport Fish Restoration and Boating Trust Fund funds the grants, which are administered by the U.S. Coast Guard.
Michelle Zaloom, executive director of the foundation, said the grants will be used to implement a Sea Tow Boating Safety Challenge program at boat shows nationwide that encourages recreational boaters to be safer on the water, to provide life jackets to those in need of marine assistance, and to survey and review navigation rules nationwide.
“Sea Tow has been helping recreational boaters in need for 25 years,” said Captain Joe Frohnhoefer, Sea Tow Foundation board president and CEO of Sea Tow Services International. “We’ve frequently said that there is a vital need for boating education. Now, with funding from the U.S. Coast Guard, our Sea Tow Boating Safety and Education Foundation can do more to prevent recreational boaters from getting into trouble on the water.”
The Sea Tow Boating Safety and Education Foundation was created to use an existing, untapped marine assistance resource to provide unique, quality, boating safety and education programs and activities as a method to reduce preventable recreational boating accidents and fatalities, according to Sea Tow.
