Attendance way up for Aquapalooza 2007

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Sea Ray’s on-the-water celebration AquaPalooza drew more than 10,000 boats and 30,000 guests worldwide to 120 local events — 43 percent more boats and 42 percent more attendees than the 2006 inaugural event, Sea Ray reported in a release today.

Coordinated by Sea Ray Boats and its network of worldwide dealers, events were held on rivers, lakes, and harbors around the world during the last two weekends in July. Sea Ray dealers as far away as Austria, Egypt and Australia helped organize AquaPalooza events, which the company called “a stunning success.”

Originally created as a Sea Ray owners’ event, AquaPalooza quickly grew, inviting all boaters and boating enthusiasts to take part, no matter the brand of their boat. “We wanted boaters of all stripes to join the fun and get a closer look at our models and the lifestyle that comes standard with owning a Sea Ray,” said Rob Noyes, vice president of marketing for Sea Ray. “The annual summertime gala has gained a reputation as the Super Bowl of boat bashes. No one throws a party like Sea Ray.”

This year’s signature event, hosted by Prince William Marine Sales of Woodbridge, Va., drew thousands of boating enthusiasts to the Potomac River near Washington, D.C. Platinum-album-selling country star Taylor Swift headlined the celebration. Participants enjoyed waterslides, volleyball contests, a charity dunk tank, kids’ treasure hunt on the beach and a fireworks finale. According to local officials, the number of boats is estimated at 1,200 to 1,300, making AquaPalooza the largest on-water event ever held in the area, Sea Ray said.
