Viking Yacht Co. receives family business award

NEW GRETNA, N.J. – Fairleigh Dickinson University and the Rothman Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies awarded the Viking Yacht Company the 2006 New Jersey Family Business Award at a luncheon on Oct. 3 at the Crystal Plaza in Livingston, N.J., the company said in a statement Tuesday.

Viking was chosen to receive top honors from among eight semi-finalists with business sales over $10 million. The New Jersey Family Business of the Year Awards program was established in 1993. The Rothman Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies at Fairleigh Dickinson University, PNC Bank and New Jersey Monthly magazine sponsor the awards.

The New Jersey Family Business of the Year Awards recognizes the significant contributions to the economy and community New Jersey family businesses make. Family businesses with innovative strategies and business practices that have had a positive impact on the state and local economy, the business community and society in general are chosen to be honored.

Brothers Bill and Bob Healey founded the Viking in 1964 and the company has operated as a family owned business since its inception. This commitment to family also is seen in the local community where Viking regularly supports the surrounding population with contributions to the schools, fire departments, emergency medical services and free flu shots for area seniors.
