Southern Florida stakeholders to gather for summit
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The eighth annual Marine Summit, which will be held tomorrow at the Broward County Convention Center, is attracting a cross-section of participants from Florida’s four southernmost counties: Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe, organizers said in a press release yesterday.
More than 200 governmental officials and marine industry representatives, along with other public and private marine interests are expected to attend.
The event includes a general session beginning at 1 p.m., breakout sessions from approximately 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and breakout session reports and summit summary between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Several elected officials and senior county and city staffers will be speaking on the topic “What the Marine Industry Means to my Community and How to Secure its Future.” The breakout sessions would address the topics of water access, workforce, hurricanes/insurance and property taxes.
“This Summit will prove to be a watershed moment in marine industry history as we lay out strategies for addressing our challenges and developing a more collaborative approach to protecting and promoting the sound growth of this vital economic sector and popular family recreational activity,” said Frank Herhold, Marine Industries Association of South Florida executive director.
Leaders from MIASF, the Marine Industries Association Palm Beach County, the Marine Council, the Miami River Marine Group and several Monroe County Marine Interests comprise the summit’s steering committee.
