MRAA Educational Foundation institutes technical training awards
OAK PARK, Ill. – The Marine Retailers Association of America Educational Foundation has created three awards for dealership technician training, the MRAA said in a press release yesterday.
The MRAA Educational Foundation is offering three $1,500 grants to state, regional or local marine trade associations to be used to train dealership technicians. The applying MTAs must match the grant and be a MRAA member in order to qualify.
Each association will create an outline of the qualifications they will utilize to determine the recipient of the award. The MTA will offer the $3,000 awards to one of their member’s technicians.
“Marine trade associations are always looking for ways to help their members and they recognize the need for technicians and the training of these people,” said Ed Lofgren, 3A Marine Services owner and Educational Foundation chairman. “Funds are scarce for most MTAs and, hopefully, these grants will allow the MTAs to better assist their members.”
“Our industry is advancing rapidly in the areas of technology on engines, electronics and repair and we must have qualified technicians in the dealerships to serve our customers,” said Dennis Smigiel, of Kydd’s Marine Center and Educational Foundation director. “The foundation wants to enhance the funds the MTAs have to get dealership personnel trained and we felt these grants were a great way to do that.”
The Educational Foundation will name the association grant recipients during the MRAA convention at a luncheon Nov. 15 at the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
