NMMA PAC reports record-breaking contributions

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Marine Manufacturers Association has achieved its largest political fundraising quarter ever, shattering all previous records, the association said in a press release today. The NMMA Political Action Committee ended the second quarter of 2006 with $86,958 in contributions from 177 donors, an all-time record. This brings NMMA PAC’s 2006 total to $153,415 from 247 donors and the 2006 election year cycle (2005 and 2006) total to a record $349,429.

“Thanks to the continued strong support of the industry, NMMA PAC is raising our profile around Washington, D.C. with government leaders,” said Monita Fontaine, NMMA vice president of government relations. “It’s evident that the boating industry means business, and your support allows us to advocate for pro-business, pro-boating policies.”

During the 2006 second quarter, NMMA PAC disbursed $69,925, bringing the year-to-date cycle total to $270,425 in disbursements to political campaigns and committees. In comparison, during the entire 2004 cycle, a presidential election year, NMMA PAC disbursed $187,500.

“Supporting NMMA PAC is a critical part of our public policy advocacy in support of our $37 billion marine industry, and I encourage our members to continue this great momentum,” said Thom Dammrich, NMMA president. “During this year’s American Boating Congress we heard many leaders in Washington tell us about the impact our voice has on policy and the importance of citizen involvement in the political process.”

This latest quarterly report brings the race for the 2006 NMMA Corporate Citizen Awards into high gear. In the total amount of contributions category, Indmar Products has moved into first place with $22,200 in contributions, with Marinas International currently in second place with $12,570. Viking Yachts is a close third with $12,000 in contributions. In the total number of contributors category, Faria Marine Instruments has a commanding lead with 46 contributors; William F. Miller & Associates LLC has moved into second place with 16 contributors. Thirty-five NMMA, Personal Watercraft Industry Association and Association of Marina Industries employees have contributed $6,776 to NMMA PAC.
