Yamaha reports unit sales increase

KENNESAW, Ga. – Unit sales increased 6 percent for outboard motors during the first half of the 2006 calendar year, despite an overall softer market for marine products, Yamaha Marine Group, a division of Yamaha Motor Corporation USA, said yesterday.

Complementing the wholesale increase, retail sales for Yamaha powered boats and re-power applications were slightly above last year’s record levels, the company reported in its release.

“The increase reflects our ability to meet demand in a timelier manner,” said Phil Dyskow, Yamaha Marine Group president. “We were better prepared with the right mix of products this year than last, and we have clearly chosen the right partners to do business with.

“There are some pockets of softness in the market, particularly because of the lingering impact of hurricanes and other weather related factors. But there are signs things may be looking up in Florida and on the Gulf Coast. The fact is, in a tough market, stronger businesses shine, and our dealer and boat builder partners truly have proven that.”
