New angler magazine to launch this summer

ISLAMORADA, Fla. - John Brownlee and Dave Morel have partnered with Force 12 Media principals Sean O'Leary and George Sass Jr. on a new marine magazine, the group said in a press release Monday.

This joint venture company, Islamorada Media Partners, LLC, will publish Center Console Angler, a targeted, niche fishing and boating enthusiast title aimed at the heart of the fishing boat market. The first issue is scheduled for a mid-summer launch.

Brownlee was most recently a senior editor for Sport Fishing and Marlin magazines. In addition, he served as the senior editor for Salt Water Sportsman from 1992 to 2001, and as a regional sales manager from 2001 to 2004. He is Center Console Angler's editor-in-chief and is in the process of assembling an editorial staff.

Morel has more than 20 years experience within the marine manufacturer and media industries. He has held sales and marketing positions with Wellcraft and Volvo Penta. He most recently served as the Northeast sales manager for Power & Motoryacht and was the associate publisher for Salt Water Sportsman for several years prior to that. He is Center Console Angler's publisher.

“After extensive research, our group determined that there is indeed room in the market for a targeted, niche publication,” Morel said.

Boat Digest publishers Force 12 Media, LLC, will round out the management team. O'Leary and Sass, formerly of the Time4 Media Marine Group, purchased Boat Digest in September 2004.

Initial staff hires include Karl Anderson and Glenn Law as senior editors, and Erin Kenney as art director. Anderson is a former senior editor of Salt Water Sportsman. Law is a book author and is also a former senior editor of Salt Water Sportsman, as well as former editor of Florida Sportsman, and has contributed freelance articles to magazines such as Popular Mechanics, Men's Journal, Fly Fisherman, and American Angler. Kenney served as art director at Motor Boating magazine for 14 years, during which she won numerous awards for graphic excellence. She is currently the art director for Boat Digest. Additional staff hires will be announced during the next several weeks.
