ABBRA hands out awards

WARREN, R.I. – Individuals and companies from the boatyard and repairer industry were recognized for their excellence throughout the year at the American Boat Builder and Repairers Association’s Annual Awards Celebration, the organization said in a statement today. Awards were given in four categories in 2006.

The Dennis Snow President’s award was given to Jack Brewer of Brewer Yacht Yard for his organization’s continuous high level of professionalism within the marine service industry. ABBRA honored Brewer as a model for others in the industry to emulate.

The Excellence in Safety and Environmental Practice award was given to Bill and May Munger of Conanicut Marine Services. The award is given to service facilities that have made significant, long-term progress in offering a clean, safe and healthy environment for its customers and staff.

The Excellence in Technology award recognized Moto Tron of Mercury Marine and Brunswick Corporation for their SmartCraft technology. The award recognizes the significant benefits this integrative technology offers to all levels of the marine industry in improved customer value and service experiences. Moto Tron’s business manager and co-founder of the SmartCraft system, Phil Gaynor, accepted the award.

The Commitment to Training award was given to the American Boat and Yacht Council for their numerous contributions to training within the marine industry. The benchmark organization for marine industry certifications, ABYC has demonstrated long-term, dedication to training standards. ABYC is spearheading the formation of the new Marine Industry Technical Education Council as well as working over the past several years to offer the Conference on Marine Industry Technical Training.
