IYRS to host first marine industry career day

NEWPORT, R.I. – The International Yacht Restoration School will host its first Marine Industry Career Day on Feb. 11, at its Newport campus, according to a statement from the school Wednesday. The one-day event, sponsored by the Rhode Island Foundation’s Newport County Fund, will draw marine companies looking to connect with potential employees and individuals in search of information on careers in the marine industry.

“We’ve dedicated considerable time listening to the industry about their training needs,” said Terry Nathan, IYRS president. “In addition to developing our educational programs, we thought we could do something more immediate, and with the help of the Rhode Island Foundation, the concept for Career Day was born.”

Among the companies exhibiting at Career Day are Alden Yachts, Conanicut Marine Services, Goetz Custom Boats, Hall Spars, Hinckley Yacht Services, Jamestown Boatyard and New England Boatworks.

Career Day runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the IYRS campus. Attendees can meet with regional employers, talk to career advisors, learn about skills needed for in-demand marine jobs, get information on training opportunities and see hands-on demonstrations. Admission is free.
