Florida county reintroduces marine anti-theft program
COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – The Collier County Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Section has teamed up with the Marine Industries Association of Collier County to help protect Collier County residents’ boats and marine equipment from being stolen, according to a statement from the MIACC today.
Sheriff Don Hunter’s marine anti-theft campaign will be kicked off at the Naples Boat Show, January 5-8 at the Collier County Fairgrounds. The Sheriff’s department has planned rallies through-out 2006 to encourage boat owners to bring their boats to designated locations and have a crime prevention practitioner photograph their boat and document serial numbers, model and ancillary equipment information. This information will be given to the participating owner in booklet form. In the event of a theft, the owner can refer to this recorded data and contact the Sheriff’s office to advise the department with clear and concise information.
Boat owners can actively help safeguard and track what belongs to him or her by taking part in the program. The Crime Prevention Section can then act expediently and efficiently to regain the stolen property. The program is free and has existed before in Collier County.
“This program is being brought back to life in Collier County to help protect boaters’ investments in their vessels and equipment,” said Dennis Huff, Crime Prevention Section spokesman. “It will be a program that will help supply law enforcement with the information they need at the time criminal activity occurs.”
