Yamaha to reimburse at retail rate

KENNESAW, Ga. — Yamaha Marine will begin, as of October 1, 2005, reimbursing Key Full Line and Key PrePaired Performance outboard dealers suggested retail price for most parts included on approved Yamaha Outboard warranty claims, according to John Rigsby, National Sales Manager for Yamaha Marine.

Rigsby said the retail reimbursement is subject to the terms and conditions contained in the Marine Power Sales Program booklet effective July 1, 2005.

“For years, many dealers have taken the opportunity at Yamaha Dealer Advisory Council sessions, Yamaha University Dealer Management Symposiums and many other industry events throughout the country to suggest that marine manufacturers should re-evaluate their warranty programs,” Rigsby noted. ”The reason for this appears to be a concern held by many that it is difficult to invest in enhancing their operation and quality of service satisfaction when they are only provided dealer cost on parts for warranty work performed.

”Our Key Dealers make many significant commitments to us and our mutual consumers. This decision was made because we believe our Yamaha Key outboard dealers will use these additional funds to strengthen their business and invest in improvements vital to enhancing the service experience.”

“I believe the time is over for people in the marine industry to stop talking about what should be done to enhance the ownership experience and actually do something,” said Claude von Plato, Division Manager for Yamaha Marine Service. “I am proud to work for the only marine engine manufacturer that has demonstrated the willingness to do what is right and take such an appropriate leadership step.”
