Sea Tow reports record-breaking activity
SOUTHOLD, N.Y. – Professional marine assistance organization Sea Tow Services International, Inc., has reported that its activity level over the Fourth of July weekend was up 9 percent over last year’s record-breaking volume.
Sea Tow received more than 4,360 phone calls during the holiday weekend and provided service to approximately 1,460 members and non-members (a 33 percent increase), which included; over 400 off-peak calls (between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.); 154 salvages and nine maydays.
The company’s network of over 100 franchises burned more than 24,098 gallons of fuel during the four-day weekend, a 50 percent increase over last year.
“The most significant trend we saw through this weekend was a rather high number of reported man overboard incidents,” said Capt. Joe Frohnhoefer, Sea Tow’s founder and CEO. “Remarkably, however, most of these incidents involved relatively minor injuries. As a matter of fact, even with the good weather being credited for exceptionally high boater activity throughout most of Florida and the Northeast, there were virtually no severe incidents reported to our national headquarters.”
Sea Tow said the results of this year’s statistical analysis include the Sea Tow network’s activity level from July 1- 4, one day shorter than last year, when the activity tracked by Sea Tow included a fifth day.
