MRAA urges dealers to support Grow Boating

OAK PARK, Ill. – The Marine Retailers Association of America has sent a letter from its president, Phil Keeter, to all marine dealers urging them to ask their suppliers to participate in the funding of the Grow Boating Initiative, MRAA reported in a release yesterday.

In the letter, Keeter says he has been waiting since 1971 for a campaign like Grow Boating, and that this is the closest the industry has ever come to an industry sponsored self-help campaign.

“Grow Boating is finally happening; that is, if we get the support we need for the funding model assessment based on engine horsepower,” Keeter wrote. “We are at the eleventh hour and I’m writing to ask for your support and your help.

“I strongly urge you to demonstrate your commitment to the future of your business and our industry by encouraging your boat and engine suppliers to participate in the Grow Boating Initiative funding model. At this stage in the campaign we cannot afford to take for granted that every industry stakeholder supports the initiative.”

Keeter asked dealers to contact their boat and engines suppliers to let them know how strong the support for GBI is in the dealer community.

“This is not a gift,” Keeter wrote. “It is an investment in each our businesses and in the future of our industry. Working together, we can meet the challenge and build a brighter future for boating.”

The engine horsepower assessment will be effective for all shipments beginning July 1.
