Brunswick acquires MX Marine
LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Brunswick Corp. (NYSE: BC) has acquired MX Marine, a maker of GPS and navigation products, as part of its strategy to enhance its position in GPS-based technology solutions, the company reported in a recent statement.
MX Marine, which is based in Torrance, Calif., also has operations in the United Kingdom at Southampton. It will be part of Brunswick New Technologies (BNT). Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
MX Marine designs GPS and Differential GPS (DGPS) navigation systems, including displays, antennae, receivers and compasses for the commercial marine market. DGPS is primarily used in the commercial/ government sector. MX Marine also provides AIS (automatic identification system) transponders.
MX Marine will become part of BNT Marine Electronics (BNT ME), which includes Navman and Northstar.
BNT President T.J. Chung sees the combination of the three brands – Navman, Northstar and MX Marine – as “covering the waterfront” in marine electronics, as each brand will “fill in the white space” by leveraging its strengths in target segments.
David Ritblatt, most recently president of MX Marine, will join BNT as vice president and general manager of BNT ME, reporting to Chung. Greg Konig, formerly integration manager for Navman, has been appointed general manager of MX Marine, reporting to Ritblatt.
