Wakeboarding makes list of top 10 extreme sports

NORTH PALM BEACH, Fla. – Wakeboarding is one of the most popular extreme sports in the United States, according to SGMA International’s analysis of the current Superstudy of Sports Participation.

Extreme sports have become so popular that they attract more “players” than some traditional team sports, the association reported in a recent statement.

Wakeboarding is No. 8 on SGMA’s list of the most popular U.S. extreme sports, attracting 2,843,000 participants in 2004. Approximately 50 percent of all wakeboarders have been participating in the sport for 1-3 years, according to SGMA.
