Defender sets sales record for April

WATERFORD, Conn. – April same-store sales increased 73.4 percent for marine outfitter and supplier Defender Industries, compared to the same period a year ago, the company said in a recent release.

“These record sales numbers represent the largest single month in Defender’s 67 year history,” Al Knupp, executive director, said. “April’s increases were driven by record sales during Defender’s 9th annual Warehouse Sale promotion, which posted a 30 percent increase over the 2004 event.”

Knupp attributed much of the success to Defender’s experienced staff.

“This puts us on track for yet another consecutive year of significant gains in 2005,” Knupp said.

Stephan Lance, Defender’s vice president, said all of his company’s sales channels have “really come to life.” Sales of inflatable boats and outboard motors led Defender’s 20 primary product categories again in April, with over 400 units sold during the 4-day Warehouse Sale alone.

“2005 got off to a slow start, but this more than makes up for it,” Lance said. “There’s just no substitute for having the broad selection of brand-name products boaters want most in-stock for immediate delivery.”
